      Overview:

Our Alpha Lipoic Acid is available in vegetarian capsules. Alpha lipoic acid is also known as thioctic acid; a powerful antioxidant. It exists as an enzyme in the mitochondria (cell's powerhouse). Alpha Lipoic Acid is also involved in recycling other antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin E, thereby increasing their potency. Alpha Lipoic Acid is often referred to as a “universal antioxidant” because it is more effective at neutralizing free radicals than most other antioxidants. Alpha Lipoic Acid is active in both water based regions and fatty areas of the body. Most other antioxidants are active in either one or the other. ALA helps in glutathione recycling which is another important antioxidant. Along with B vitamins, ALA helps in energy generation from carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism.

      Overview:

Advanced Antioxidant Complex is a robust formula comprised of powerful cell protectors known as antioxidants. Antioxidant complex contains several botanical sourced flavonoids with potent antioxidant properties including: Green Tea Extract, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Grape Seed Extract, Turmeric, Quercetin, Lutein, and Vitamin C. It is important to take antioxidants in combination because they work synergistically and are more beneficial together than when taken alone. Antioxidants are a group of nutrients that can reduce the risk of numerous disorders that may be caused by free radical damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules which can cause damage to cell structures including DNA, enzymes, lipids, and proteins. We are exposed to free radicals daily from toxins and pollutants. Free radicals are also produced by natural body processes such as digestion and oxygen metabolism. Cells neutralize these free radicals through antioxidant compounds. Free radical damage may induce several chronic diseases. Some of these free radical induced chronic diseases include cancer, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease, cataracts, macular degeneration, arthritis, asthma, hypertension, atherosclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. Free radicals are also responsible for premature ageing. There is growing evidence that persons that supplement with antioxidants are more vigorous and less prone to disease. The following list provides a concise summary of some of the ingredients included in our Antioxidant Complex. For more detailed information, please refer to individual product sheets where available.

      Vitamin C:

Vitamin C has many health benefits, but it is primarily recognized for supporting immune function, and as a powerful antioxidant and cell protector. It is the most powerful water soluble antioxidant, playing an essential role in protecting the body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. It helps to neutralize the potentially harmful reactions in the blood and the fluids surrounding the cells. Vitamin C may also protect other antioxidants, such as Vitamin E.

      Alpha Lipoic Acid:

Alpha Lipoic Acid increases glutathione levels and is itself a scavenger of free radicals everywhere in the body. In addition, it recycles other antioxidants, specifically Vitamin C and Vitamin E, enhancing their potency. It has the unique ability to be active in both water and fat compartments in the body; most antioxidants are active in either one or the other. Thus, Alpha Lipoic Acid is sometimes referred to as a “universal antioxidant” and is more effective in neutralizing free radicals than the majority of its counterparts.

      Green Tea:

Green tea contains several compounds that have antioxidant properties. The active constituents are the polyphenols called catechins and tannins. The catechin epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) may be a much more potent antioxidant than Vitamin C and E.

      Quercetin:

Quercetin is a potent bioflavonoid that has many health benefits. As an antioxidant, it may support cardiovascular health. Research shows promise that Quercetin protects LDL cholesterol from oxidizing in the arteries and it may guard cellular DNA from free-radical damage.

      Turmeric:

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is an herb that has been used in Ayurvedic Medicine for many years. It is a member of the ginger family. Turmeric possesses antioxidant compounds known as curcuminoids, of which curcumin has been found to be most potent. These compounds help prevent the buildup of excess free radicals. They also neutralize existing free radicals by scavenging them. It also has been shown to support healthy liver function and digestion.

      Grape Seed Extract:

Grape Seed Extract comes from the tiny seeds of the red grape. It is rich in flavonoids, which are plant substances that help protect cells from free radical damage. Grape Seed Extract contains procyandolic oligomers (PCOs), also known as proanthocyanidins. Grape Seed Extract is thought to exert a powerful, positive influence on blood vessels. Consequently, PCOs are a key ingredient in pharmaceuticals used in Western Europe for vascular disorders. Grape Seed Extract is both water and fat soluble and may therefore penetrate all types of cell membranes delivering powerful antioxidant protection. It is also one of the few antioxidants that can cross the blood brain barrier, potentially helping to protect brain cells from free radical damage.

      Lutein:

Lutein is a naturally occurring carotenoid found primarily in fruits and vegetables. When ingested by humans, it concentrates in a section of the eye called the macula, which is a small area in the center of the retina. Researchers have discovered that Lutein protects the macula by filtering out potentially damaging forms of light. Lutein has been called our “natural sun glasses” due to its ability to protect the eyes against radiation damage by acting as an optic filter and an antioxidant. Moreover, various studies have shown that a direct relationship exists between Lutein intake and pigmentation in the eye; research indicates an increase in macula pigmentation decreases the risk for eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration. Corn, egg yolks, spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, peas, leeks and collard greens all contain high concentrations of Lutein.
