      Overview:

Borage oil is extracted from Borago officinalis seeds. The plant is cultivated in North America, but native to Europe and Africa. Our cold pressed Borage Oil is rich in gamma linoleic acid (GLA). In addition to GLA, Borage Oil also contains minerals which are essential for better cardiovascular function, healthy skin, and nails. Borage oil contains 20-26% gamma linoleic acid (GLA) and is one of the richest sources of this omega-6 essential fatty acid. GLA is also derived from linoleic acid, another omega-6 fatty acid present in common vegetable oils like safflower and sunflower. GLA is the precursor for many important prostaglandins, which are hormone-like substances that may affect blood thickness, skin health, joint health, cholesterol levels, blood vessel dilation, blood vessels constriction, and inflammation. GLA can be produced in the body from omega-6 fatty acids. Although omega-6s are readily available in the diet many people are still deficient in GLA. Scientists believe the processing and hydrogenation of oils may be to blame; hypothesizing that the hydrogenation inhibits the conversion of omega-6 to GLA. That is one of the reasons people look to dietary supplements. Besides borage oil, the primary dietary sources of GLA are black currant seed oil and evening primrose oil.

      Overview:

      Omega-3:

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are two nutritionally important omega-3 fatty acids. Both EPA and DHA are essential for efficient functioning of the brain and body at a cellular level. Deficiency of DHA in body has been linked to depression, schizophrenia, memory loss and a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Inadequate intake of omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy may result in an increased incidence of prematurity, low birth weight, and hyperactivity in children. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) have a part in running virtually every vital system in the human body. In order for these systems to function properly, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids should be consumed in an equal ratio. For centuries the human diet consisted of an equal ratio of EFAs, but modern food processing techniques and dietary tendencies have most Americans consuming omega-6s at high omega 6 to 3 ratio. This creates an imbalance in omega-3 fatty acids. This highly concentrated omega-3 fatty acid softgel contains twice as much eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) as many omega-3 products, and in a convenient one per day softgel.

      Research indicates:

      • Instrumental in regulating inflammation, blood pressure and thickness, hormone production, and the activities of the immune and central nervous systems
      • Important for infants (and a developing fetus) for proper development of the brain and retina of the eyes
      • Studies suggest that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may be linked to omega-3 deficiency
      • Deficiencies of omega-3 may also be linked to depression
      • May be helpful for symptoms of Crohn’s disease
      • Researchers hypothesize omega-3 may help prevent breast, prostate and colon cancers
      • Supports cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure, relaxing blood vessels, and lowering cholesterol levels
      • Has been shown to decrease elevated serum triglycerides
      • May also reduce pain for sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis
      • Deficiencies have also been found in people who have allergies, asthma, and skin disorders like eczema and psoriasis

      Materials and Processing:

The fish species used in EverLife fish oil products are clearly listed on the product label. The oils are derived from short life span fish that are low on the food chain, including anchovy, mackerel, and/ or cod. These species do not have increased amounts of contaminants that may be found in fish with longer life spans and that are higher on the food chain such as shark, swordfish, tile fish, and king mackerel.

      Testing & Specifications:

EverLife Labs uses quality fish oil that has appropriate testing performs performed. Furthermore, our materials comply with the monographs set by C.R.N., G.O.E.D., and the European Commission.

In addition to raw material testing, as a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certified company, we test three lots of fish oil from each potential bulk fish oil supplier. Heavy metals testing is done for items such as mercury, cadmium, and lead – verifying the Certificate of Analysis results of inbound raw materials against our own laboratory results. PCB testing is also performed to insure compliance with California Proposition 65, along with freshness/stability testing for shelf-life.

PCB  Limits for EverLife Laboratories versus FDA and California Proposition 65:

The Food and Drug Administration’s tolerance level for PCB’s in fish (2 ppm, listed in 21 CFR 109.30,) far exceeds EverLife Laboratories current specification for  PCB’s in fish oil (not more than 0.09 mg/kg of fish oil). The State of California has not established a “maximum allowable dose level” (MADL) for PCB’s related to reproductive toxicity. However, the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has established a “no significant risk level” (NSRL) related to carcinogenic activity of 0.09 mcg/ serving per day.

      Summary of PCB Limits

FDA Limits for PCB’s in fish:

      2 ppm

CA Prop 65 NSRL limit for PCB’s in fish oil:

      0.09 mcg/serving per day

EverLife Labs fish oil limits for PCB’s:

      NMT 0.09 ppm (0.00000009)

      Stability and Freshness:

Fats will quickly oxidize, so vitamin E is a common ingredient in fish oil supplements to prevent that. Vitamin E reduces oxidized fats. On the finished product we will test for vitamin E, if vitamin E is identified then the fish oil is still fresh, otherwise it would consume the vitamin E.

      • Nature's richest vegetarian source of the essential fatty acids, ALA (omega 3) and LA (omega 6).
      • Supports cardiovascular, nervous system, skin, joint, and cell membrane health!

      Overview:

Humanity realized the potential of the flax plant long ago and utilized it in everything including: food, fiber, linen, oil, and herbal preparations. Flax seed oil is also commonly referred to as Linseed oil and is one of the best vegetarian sources of essential fatty acids. Essential fatty acids are a necessary component of cell walls and cellular membranes throughout the body. They play a role in energy production and help regulate the breakdown of cholesterol and triglycerides. The fatty acid profile of Flax oil typically consists of 50-60% omega-3 fatty acid (linolenic acid or alpha-linolenic acid) and about 18-20% omega-6 fatty acid (linoleic acid). Flax seed oil is the richest natural source of linolenic acid, which is commonly deficient in American diets. The average American diet contains far too much saturated and hydrogenated fat, but yet is deficient in beneficial fatty acids. These beneficial fatty acids are responsible for many functions including the production of hormone-like compounds called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are beneficial for promoting cardiovascular, immune, and nervous system health. It is important that individuals receive a balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, two classes of essential fats that have positive health benefits on the body. Our Flax seed oil is featured in easy-to-swallow softgels so that you can conveniently obtain plant sourced essential omegas. Many of the same omega compounds found in fish oil!

      Research indicates:

      • Omega-3 fatty acids are helpful in regulating inflammation, blood thickness, blood pressure, hormone production, immune activity, and central nervous system activity.
      • Omega-3 fatty acids are important for development of brain and eyes in children
      • May support healthy immune function and cardiovascular health
      • Omega-3 fatty acids have been studied for their potential benefits in treatment of allergies, asthma and various skin disorders
      • May help prevent breast, prostate and colon cancers
      • May influence hormone metabolism in postmenopausal women
      • May be useful in treating pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis
      • Deficiency of Omega-3 may be one of many potential causes of depression.

      • Recent research shows the important role in essential fatty acid, DHA plays in the developing brain.
      • DHA is the first fatty acid used by the brain to form healthy cell membranes vital for cell signaling.
      • DHA makes up most of the fatty acid composition of gray matter and retinal tissue.
      • Molecularly distilled and tested to ensure pollutants such as heavy metals (i.e. mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium), PCBs, and dioxins are removed.

      Overview:

Docosahexaenoic acid, better known simply as DHA, is an omega-3 essential fatty acid. One of the primary building blocks of the brain and the eyes, DHA ensures optimal composition of cells in the brain, retinal tissue, heart, and parts of the nervous system. It is also vital for proper cell signaling. Because of DHA’s role in proper growth and development it is of particular importance to developing fetuses and young infants. During the last trimester of pregnancy and continuing through the first two years of infancy (and beyond) DHA levels in the brain rapidly increase. In order to sustain this neural development, DHA must be obtained through a healthy diet or supplementation. As much as 60% of the brain is comprised of fat with approximately 36% coming from DHA alone; therefore a lack of this essential fatty acid will be a limiting factor in brain development and cognitive capacity. Although present in human breast milk, DHA is not in cow’s milk; therefore many physicians recommend breast-feeding or the use of infant formula containing DHA.

      Research indicates:

      • Essential nutrient for optimal brain function
      • Important supplement for infants that are not nursed
      • Studies indicate a link between DHA and improved brain function
      • Plays an important role in healthy eye function
      • Important throughout pregnancy for health of both mother and child
      • Studies support an association between DHA and benefits to the cardiovascular system
      • May support healthy blood pressure
      • May support healthy growth hormone levels
      • May support a healthy mood
      • May support healthy inflammatory response

PCB  Limits for EverLife Laboratories versus FDA and California Proposition 65.
